Competitive City Report Released: An "A" for Progress
The 2010 Competitive City Report, prepared by The Greater Louisville Project, a civic initiative organized by The Community Foundation of Louisville (CFL) and supported by other foundations in Louisville, details promising progress toward goals outlined during the Louisville Metro merger ten years ago. The report measures Louisville Metro’s performance and competitive standing in three critical areas:
- Raising levels of education attainment
- Increasing higher-value and higher-wage jobs
- Strengthening our community’s “qualities of place”
Efforts during the past decade have strengthened Louisville Metro’s standing in some areas, such as the number of young adults with bachelor’s degrees. But the report also identifies several areas for continued improvement, especially reducing the achievement gap between white and black students. The Courier-Journal has published a series of articles about the report:
The 2010 Competitive City Report draws on data from the U.S. Census Bureau and other sources. Cities of comparison include Raleigh, Nashville, Indianapolis and others. The Greater Louisville Project is a non-partisan civic initiative organized by The Community Foundation of Louisville and supported by a consortium of philanthropic foundations including The James Graham Brown Foundation, Brown-Forman, The C. E. & S. Foundation, The Annie E. Casey Foundation, The JP Morgan Chase Foundation, Gheens Foundation, The Humana Foundation, and the Stephen Reily and Emily Bingham Fund.
